Almost Original Famous Amos Chocolate Chips Cookie Recipe

After searching the internet for the best original famous amos recipe I finally tried two recipes. The first recipe does not smell nor taste like FA but it was delicious and crispy. Definitely a keeper. It is also not too sweet and has a more nutty aroma. Kind of taste like digestive biscuits.

The only change in the first recipe that I added was desiccated coconut which I think is important and missing in most of the recipes found in the internet. How can there be NO coconut when at the back of every FA bag coconut is listed as one of its ingredient.

Another ingredient some say is a must is coffee oil. Still curious to know what is the secret ingredient inside a FA cookie, I decided to give coffee oil a try but since there is no coffee oil here I substitute it with coffee flavour.

Before I attempt my second try I visited an FA booth and bought a bag of cookies. I notice the worker rolling the dough into round balls. A clue that drier mixture is a must. Then there is the smell. It was super strong. Even after munching all the cookies, you can still smell the lingering aroma inside the bag. Therefore my deduction is whatever essence I add into my second recipe it must be doubled. Another note from the ingredient listed behind the FA bag is vegetable oil. NO butter at all. So out with the butter and in goes the margarine. Then a fourth clue, those FA dough were not made yesterday but a few days old so no baking on the same day.

The second hunt online goes out to look for an ingredient that fits the new clues above. Since aroma is an important ingredient I played around with three flavour vanilla, coconut and coffee. The coffee is very strong therefore only a drop is enough. More than that will overwhelm the other flavour and turn it into a coffee cookie.

The result from 2nd recipe was that the texture was closer to FA. Crispier. The aroma stronger and sweeter better than 1st Recipe but still not as close to FA aroma. The taste was still not near to a FA cookie but the sweetness was the same.

Using my two taster - hubby and daughter, they both concluded that they prefer the 1st recipe. They claim it is even better than a FA cookie because it was less sweet.

Look we are here looking to copycat a Famous Amos cookie in texture, taste and smell. So definitely, 2nd Recipe is closer to FA. No way is 1st recipe near to it. However having said that, I will have to admit that 1st Recipe has its own unique taste which is also very delicious.

With two tries and still far from reaching an almost Famous Amos cookie, so I have attempted Recipe 3 and to me, personally I prefer this recipe. It still does not match FA in taste and smell but its still pretty good. All woof up within a week.
